The Delta Times San Jose
Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta -William Shakespeare Every year it seems that somewhere around this time I wake up one morning and, in complete shock, realize that its the end of August. Its not like I havent been aware of the current date incrementing its way upward, its the realization that summer is almost over that seems to catch me off guard. So here I am once again, struggling to come to terms with the fact that the traditional end of summer holiday, Labor Day, is just a couple of days away. Although I do love fall and the excitement it brings, I always lament the day when I finally have to pack away my flip-flops for my warmer shoes. This was a summer of big events for many of the women in our alumnae chapter and our first meeting of the year will be dedicated to catching up with one another and sharing a memento, a project, or a special story from the summer. We have many fun and interesting programs lined up for the rest of our monthly meetings as well. Im really excited about participating in the new activities in addition to our traditional favorites. Now as I put on my flip-flops, Ill wiggle my toes in a defiant act against those closed-toe shoes waiting in my closet. Ill make a conscience decision to breath in the smells of the late summer barbecues and listen to the sounds of the little league games filtering through the neighborhood. On a good day, I may even chase down the ice-cream truck. I hope to see many of you in September at our first meeting and hear your stories of how you took advantage of the summers days. DDD,Kendra A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken. -James Dent P.S. We are looking for a Trident Correspondent as well as a Historian for the upcoming year. If you are interested in either of these positions, please contact Kendra Basler at kbasler@guidant.com
Philanthropy Update
This year - we will NOT have to pick up and deliver the wreaths. We will receive order forms to fill out, mail in ourselves, and the wreaths will be delivered per the instructions on the order form. We will have the forms at the September meeting. We understand our profits will not be to the magnitude they were previously but those of us who just "half to have" the holiday wreath - will have them. Additionally we will have some profit for Childrens Hospital at Stanford. Starkville, MS: Little damage. Some power out. Advisor spoke with house mother at Beta Mu and several members have lost homes but no lives were lost. People from the coast have filled the hotels. June Carpenter, Beta Mu advisor, is asking for prayer. ACP-Julia Kraker Beta Mu Advisor-June Carpenter Baton Rouge, LA: CC has 34 girls from New Orleans area. May be a struggle for them to stay in school. Alumnae will do all they can to assist. Jeri Wesley, Financial Advisor for Phi Eta has asked for prayers for Stephanie Hunter Berault, a Tri Delta from LA. She and her husband made it to Mississippi but have lost everything. Oxford, MS: Collegiates are still getting word regarding their families-some still don't know. Most have lost homes. Churches are taking in refugees. Millsaps: Closed until 9/12 because of gas crisis. If you want addresses of any ACP or CCP, please contact Kendra or Jennifer. Earthquake PreparednessWhile the Bay Area does not have hurricanes, we do live on a network of fault lines. Are you prepared for when (not if) the next quake hits? Here is a link to emergency preparedness guidelines for earthquakes: http://www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/fixit/fixit.html.
When I was chosen to be a Delta Delta Delta in college I was thrilled and honored...but I had no idea what it really meant. While my college years hold dear and treasured memories, my years as an alumna have been even more meaningful. The friends I've made through our alumnae group are simply remarkable. Paying dues is not just 'joining a club' --- it's a way to say thank you to Delta Delta Delta! It is so much more than the purchasing power of $36.00. Doors open (literally and figuratively), smiles and sorrows are shared, and lots of fun and action avail each of us. Please join me in making 2005-2006 another grand year for the San Jose Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta. Your Silicon Valley Sister,
Save the Date: What: Founders Day with Stanford Collegians Where: Omega Chapter House, Stanford, CA When: Saturday, November 12, 2005 More information on event time will be distributed in the near future.
