Collegiate Chapter
The Omega Chapter at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA receives support from the
Palo Alto and San Jose Tri Delta alumnae chapters.
The Omega Chapter of Delta Delta Delta began as the Manteista Club on
January 16, 1909. The first pledge class was composed of 26 honorable women. The Pi
Chapter from Berkeley sent 13 women by train to assist with induction and to welcome their
new sisters to Delta Delta Delta. Haus Mitte on Mayfield is the former Tri-Delta house.
In 1944, all nine panhellenic groups at Stanford ceased to exist as a result of an edict
from the Stanford Board of Trustees which outlawed women's fraternities. In 1977, Stanford
lifted its ban on sororities (provided they were unhoused). Then in 1984, a group of four
women, Stacey Torres, Jill Nelson, Aleka Doumas, and Margo Wright saw a need for a new
sorority on campus. They petitioned the Delta Delta Delta National Fraternity and were
granted a charter. In December of 1984, 44 women were initiated with the help of local
alumnae and women from the Pi Chapter. Ever since the re-instatement of the Omega chapter,
the women of Tri Delta have reflected the ideals of sisterhood, achievement, and social
awareness.
In 1998, the Omega Chapter of Delta Delta Delta won the privilege to have a chapter
house.
